Tuesday, Free!*

Maybe I’m not the only one with a thing about Tuesdays. That is the day that many of SF’s museums have chosen to be free for visitors. Seems like a pretty random day to me. Don’t most people have to work? I guess they take some time off to enjoy the day. I ventured cross town via public transit to visit the Legion of Honor, drawn by the Making of the Modern Picture Book exhibit. It wasn’t much of an exhibit although it did look like there might have been more books in the bigger Cult of Beauty exhibit which I didn’t visit.

Anyway, the Legion is kind of the perfect sized museum. It took me a couple of hours to get through all of the exhibits {minus the special exhibit}. I felt satisfied and saw some beautiful art. I’d definitely recommend visiting – maybe the museum in the morning and a dazzling hike along Lands End in the afternoon. You should bring a picnic too – the food at the museum was pretty pricey, but it was tasty.

I walked from the bus stop to the museum, but there is also a bus. It was really nice out today so it made sense to walk. Plus I got to see this.

As for the art. Lots of beauty to capture the imagination, starting with a replica Thinker.

I went directly to the book exhibit. Sadly it was one small room – kind of like our kitchen.

Also, no photography since it’s visiting material. I managed to snap a couple of really blurry pictures before finding that out. A page from an alphabet book.

Then I ventured to the ceramics/porcelain room. Lots of dishes.

When I see items like these, I wonder what sort of a life it is to have such decorative stools for feet and sparkling lights.

Did you know that the 1920′s is one of my favorite historical periods? I think I would make a fantastic flapper…can you imagine? I can.

And that my friends was a lovely Tuesday!

*sorry for the delay… an event that was supposed to last a short time ended up going surprisingly longer so I am late in posting for yesterday.
